Who is responsible

What is collected, and where

On this website: the details of the trip you are choosing, which is to say the tour, the date, the departure time and how many people are travelling. No name, email, phone number or card detail is asked for on this site.

On the checkout: when you continue to pay, you move to a checkout page provided by Bókun, the booking system the operators use. Your name, email address and phone number are entered there, and your card is processed there by Teya. That page is Bókun's, and Bókun's and Teya's own privacy terms apply to it alongside this one.

Visiting Iceland never receives, sees or stores card details at any point.

Why, and on what legal basis

Your booking details and contact details are used to make and manage your booking, and are passed to the operator running your tour so that they can carry it out and reach you about it. The legal basis is the performance of your contract. Where we keep records for accounting, the basis is our legal obligation to do so.

Who else handles it

• The operator of the tour you booked. They receive your booking and contact details because they are the ones running the trip.
• Bókun, a Tripadvisor company, which provides the booking system and the checkout.
• Teya, which processes the card payment.
• Cloudflare, which hosts and delivers this website.
• SNDR Studio, which built the site, runs it and keeps the visit counts described below.

Your details are not sold, and are not passed to anyone for advertising.

What this website stores in your browser

One thing: an item called vi_cart, which is a random identifier so that the trip you are choosing is still there if you reload the page. It contains nothing about you, and it is necessary for the booking to work.

There is no advertising on this site and no tracking cookies of any kind. That is why you are not asked to accept cookies. Bókun's checkout sets its own cookies once you move to it, and their terms cover those.

How visits are counted

The site counts how many people visit it, which is how we know whether it is working. It is a small counter written and run by the studio that built the site, not Google Analytics and not anything shared with an advertising network.

What it records is a tally, not a trail. For each day it keeps a count of how many times a page was opened, which page, which country the request came from, whether the device was a phone or a computer, and which site the visitor arrived from if they followed a link. It also counts how many people reached the checkout. Those numbers are added together at the end of each day and nothing links one of them to the next.

It sets nothing in your browser. It does not store your IP address, it does not store which browser you use, and there is no identifier of any kind, so it cannot tell one visitor from another or follow you between sites. There is nothing here to opt out of and no cookie to accept.

The site loads photographs from the operators' image service and two animation libraries from a public code network, which see the request your browser makes, as any server does. Nothing is set in your browser by either.

How long it is kept

Booking records are kept for as long as needed to deliver and support the booking, and accounting records for the seven years Icelandic accounting law requires.

Your rights

You may ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, ask that its use be restricted, object to its use, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to the address above and we will answer.

If you are not satisfied with how it has been handled, you can complain to Persónuvernd, the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, at personuvernd.is.

Changes to this page

If how the site handles data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too.
