South Coast Scenic Tour: Small Group From Cruise Terminal

Operated by Nordur Travel Services

About this experience

Step off your cruise ship and get ready to discover one of Iceland’s most spectacular regions on a memorable journey along the South Coast. After meeting your guide at the cruise terminal, we’ll leave the city behind and begin our scenic drive through the Icelandic countryside, where wide-open landscapes, mountains, waterfalls, and volcanic scenery unfold around you.

Our first stop is in the small village of Hvolsvöllur, where we’ll take a short break before continuing toward the coast. As we drive farther south, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with towering mountains and vast landscapes giving you a glimpse of the natural beauty Iceland is famous for.

Soon, we’ll arrive at the mighty Skógafoss waterfall. Dropping approximately 60 meters from the cliffs above, Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls. Take your time to walk around, enjoy the views, and capture photographs as the powerful water creates a misty atmosphere around the falls. Your guide will also share stories and interesting facts about this remarkable part of Iceland.

From Skógafoss, we continue toward the coast and the famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. Here, Iceland’s volcanic landscape truly comes to life. The beach is covered in dark volcanic sand and surrounded by dramatic basalt formations, towering cliffs, and the striking Reynisdrangar sea stacks rising from the ocean. You’ll have time to explore and take photos while experiencing the raw beauty of Iceland’s Atlantic coastline. Due to the powerful and unpredictable waves, your guide will also explain the important safety precautions to follow while visiting the beach.

Our journey then takes us to Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland’s southernmost village. Nestled between mountains and the sea, Vík is a perfect place to take a break, stretch your legs, explore the village, or grab something to eat. Food and drinks are not included in the tour, giving you the flexibility to choose what suits you during the stop.

After leaving Vík, we’ll continue through the spectacular South Coast landscapes toward Sólheimajökull Glacier. As we approach the glacier, you’ll get a close look at the ice flowing down from the mighty Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. This is a fantastic opportunity to appreciate Iceland’s glacial landscape and take some unforgettable photographs. Please note that glacier hiking is not included in this tour.

Our final major stop of the day is Seljalandsfoss, one of Iceland’s most distinctive waterfalls. The water plunges from the cliffs into the pool below, and when conditions allow, you can follow the path behind the waterfall for a completely different perspective. Feel the spray of the falls, take in the surrounding scenery, and enjoy one last memorable Icelandic landscape before we begin our journey back.

Throughout the day, your experienced guide will bring the journey to life with stories about Iceland’s history, geology, nature, and folklore. Traveling in a small group means you can enjoy the sights at a more relaxed pace while receiving a more personal experience.

As the day comes to an end, we’ll make our way back toward the cruise terminal, giving you time to relax and enjoy the scenery before returning to your ship.
